No. 2 in A minor.

Sinfonie Orchester Biel Solothurn, Kaspar Zehnder.

Superb music and performance.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Nikolai Miaskovsky.

CD I.

Symphony No. 1 in E minor, opus 3, and No. 25 in D sharp major, opus 69.

State SO of the Russian Federation, Evgeny Svetlanov.

Miaskovsky for me is a essential composer, and i have played this box already many times, 2014 being the last time, so I thought I should renew the acquaintance.  Every bit as good as I did remember.

Choeeeur des moines de l'abbaye de Solesmes,
somewhere in France

Solesmes is in the northwestern part of France, in the Pays de la Loire and lies along the river Sarthe, as does the impressive looking Abbey:

Stürmisch Bewegt

This morning's listening 'til chores, courtesy of the reportedly ill-tempered Rameau :  when working as an organist at the Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, he wrote his Treatise on Harmony. Nevertheless, he wanted to travel to improve his skills, but his leave is not approved. In order to bring his employers to his knees, he waited until the Feast of Corpus Christi to hide all the organ registers and played deliberately out of tune until he finally obtained his leave of absence.

Joachim Raff.

Piano Works, Volume III.

Album Lyrique, opus 17.
Cino Eglogues, opus 105.
Impromptu Valse, opus 94.
Fantasie Polonaise, opus 106.

Tra Nguyen, Piano.

Nguyen is an absolute marvel in these works by Raff. Her pianism is of the highest order, and has quite an impact on the performance. Raff's piano works belong to the best in the piano literature, but is shamefully neglected by almost all pianists. You need only to hear a few notes to realize what his worth is. Very well recorded.

Heavenly harmony flow deep in this one  0:)
Truelly beautiful voices of Monks: of the Abbey ST.Maurice & ST.MAUR, clervaux on Philips - festivo series, release in early 80'', that a surprise for me whom his more in the older vinyl, like 50''-60'' some 70''.

Sounds good. Not always in the mood for Gregorian chant, but maybe this week is the week, so will check this one out if I can find it.

Stravinsky: Symphony in Three Movements

Such a class act this symphony, and I like the way it begins almost incongruously with what to my ears could be a corny theme from a B-movie, before beginning its intricate deliberations.

I was listening to that same disc (from another collection) just the other day. Ciccolini's Debussy is top drawer, IMHO. Great stuff!

Good day, Jan.
