Dry Brett Kavanaugh

Ah, you like Henze's music, Dry Brett? I'm finding him to be an intriguing composer and the more I listen to him, the more he's getting under my skin. Sometimes when a composer has such a diverse range of compositions that are in all sorts of styles (sometimes the styles are in the same work), it can be difficult, or difficult for me, to assimilate all of these different strands, but it's finally coming together for me.

I only know his guitar music and love it. I will check other compositions by him.

Miaskovsky: Symphony No. 24 [Svetlanov] Op. 63

Here we have wonderful sweeping themes again. I really like the slightly menacing undercurrent of the lower register strings which prevails in the opening movement. The same applies in the slow movement; wonderful themes with great orchestration just more poignant and at a slower pace but with great intensity. The final movement is a very pleasant mixture of the moods and tone of the first two movements. This is wonderful stuff!

Oh gosh! May I ask you for a copy, Jan? I'm not an audiophile at all so MP3 will do just fine for me. :) TIA.

Stürmisch Bewegt

For the first time in many, many years, I forgot to listen to Die erste Walpurgisnacht, April 30th. I fear I may have lost my warlock status...

Dear op , dear folks out there on GmG world wide, I am dead serious, I'm listening now to French Baroque Lalande and Lully. Grands Motets and Lully vol
[asin]Les Grand Motets de Michel Richard de Lalande[/asin].Sofar my favorite is the CD of Lalande , Lully, than I would say, exploring Lully Motets work is a tedious musicologist job or habit.

Have a nice day, fellas, bien le bonsoir De Profundis Clamavi for intimous if you will?  ;)

Now, it's to the Lenny Concertos-Plus box:

JSB
Vn Cto in E, BWV 1042
Cto for Ob & Vn in c minor, BWV 1060R

Vivaldi
Piccolo Cto in d minor, RV 443

JSB
Klavier Cto in d minor, BWV 1052

Isaac Stern, vn
Harold Gomberg, Ob
Wm Heim, picc
Glenn St-Gould, pf
NY Phil (reduced numbers for the BWV 1042
Columbia Symphony Orchestra
Lenny, conductor & harpsichordist

Probably, Lenny would not be anyone's first choice for this lit. That said, for "Pre-HIP" Baroque, it is light of tread, and energetic.

Barber
Vn Cto, Op. 14

Bartók
Cto for Orch, Sz 116

I am already glad I decided to survey this box in order, as it had been an unconscionably long time since I listened to the Barber. Gawd, what a great piece.  The Bartók is great, as well, with an especially exhilarating Presto in the Finale.
