I definitely need to listen to more of Haydn's music. For me, he's one of the better Classical Era composers.

It would be quite unusual from you, certainly.  ;)

Do you have his complete symphonies, John?
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

I do, indeed. I own the Doráti Decca set, but I think I own the Adam Fischer set on Brilliant Classics as well.

Symphony No. 2

What a striking work! My kind of music.

Mine too Cesar! That is a very nice disc, combining both symphonies, which were originally released separately by Chandos.

Now playing: David Diamond Symphony No.1 - I have the highest opinion (as with Braga Santos) of the first four symphonies:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Symphony No. 2. I'm curious how this work compares or regarded in relation to other Lutoslawski's symphonies. After several listens I'm still not a big fan of it.

Sounds like a recording I would like.

It actually reminds of a favourite of mine: Christophe Rousset's L' Oiseau-Lyre (Decca) recording.

VW Romance for Viola and Piano. This and Bax's 'Legend' are the highlights of this delightful disc:

Right out of the gate, Nielsen is combative and there's much conflict within the music. A splendid concerto and performance.

Such a great work and performance. My favourite of the three concertos.

Debussy

Hello,I start listening to music again after some weeks without listening to a single piece.
Jean Rodolphe Kars is an interesting musician .The tranquility in his playing is very surprising and appealing. It works very fine with Debussy but less ( my opinion)in his recording with Schubert piano pieces.
His approach is the opposite of Zimerman who plays these music amost if it is Liszt
After hearing his Messiaen recording of Vingt Regards sur L'Enfant Jésus, I became particularly interested in this pianist.
I am therefore pleased with this recording that unleashes a convincing vision on these pieces by Debussy.

Mine too Cesar! That is a very nice disc, combining both Barber symphonies, which were originally released separately by Chandos.

I don't think I much cared for Neeme Järvi's Barber, nor Zinman or Alsop either, but I did find the pairings from the original separate Chandos releases interesting: George Frederick Bristow, Amy Beach, and Charles Ives symphonies I think. None of this music, including the Barber symphonies, get much playtime on record.

Robert Schumann
Symphonies 1-4 & Manfred Overture
Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
James Levine

After spending the morning with Kodály, my plan is to listen to all of James Levine's Schumann symphony cycle for the rest of the day. Have a good one everybody!

Levine's cycle might be in my top 3 or top 5. I didn't end up having time to finish it all, doing that now, but I like big, heroic Schumann, and Levine's fits the bill towards my tastes.
