Ludwig van Beethoven.

Symphonies No 4 & 5.

Anima Eterna, Jos van Immerseel.

Nothing to add apart from more praise as I have given it already. Fine recording too!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

On a Distant Shore is a quite superb work, extremely evocative. Rehnqvist has a very personal voice. Arktis ! Arktis ! is a great piece as well.

I very much like Karin Rehnqvist's music and would recommend this for cool (chilly) Nordic soundscapes. Props to André for the nod toward Arktis Arktis.

Dutilleux: Symphony No.1 (in my car).
Such an impressive and captivating work - like a more modernistic Debussy:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

It does indeed make a big difference. :)

The Planès is a new recording that I haven't heard yet. Sofar this has served me well:

Good afternoon all,

Anton Bruckner.

Symphony No, 4, last version 1879/80, WAB 104.

Sinfonieorchester Basel, Mario Venzago.

What a beacons of heavenly light these performances are under the direction of Venzago. To hear the works as they were suppose to be, and true to the intent of what Bruckner meant to say. Ravishingly is the key word for the interpretation of the 4th. You can now walk easily between the desks, and hear every single note come together as a whole glorious manifestation of musical bliss. It is a joy to be so privileged to hear such honest and clean works of genius. An orchestra that follows closely the direction of Venzago and respond with unbounded enthusiasm. Recording is very good.

Elizabethan Consort Music Volume II

Pavans, Galliards & Almains.

The Teares of the Muses, 1599.

Hesperion XXI, Jordi Savall.
Recorded in 1999.

A wonderful disc, where good music and excellent performances come together. Well recorded too.

A firm favourite in my book. Excellent interpretations, and an State of the Art recording is a welcome bonus. I think the music is still underrated, by many a classical music lover. The music press at the time of this release were lavish in their praise, and right they were.

Dvorak: 4 songs, op.2

The low opus number is because they're reworkings of songs from the very early Cypresses, enhanced by 15-16 years of compositional experience.

EDIT: And again, the faster songs are good but the slower songs (2nd and 3rd) are exquisite.

This hovered over my turntable but decided on safer option (Symphonie Concertante). After your positive recommendation I will actually play "Song of the Night". :)

A fine choice. ;)
