Sergei Bortkiewicz.

Violin Concerto in D minor.
Symphonic Poem after Shakespeare's "Othello".

Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Martin Yates.

Certainly one of the best CD'S I bought this year.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

First dip into this new acquisition:

Bartók
Violin Concerto No. 2, Sz 112
Gertler
Czech PO
Ančerl

Fantastic!
I have that set; hope that you enjoy the rest of it!

Listened to two works for flute this morning:  Nielsen's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra and a work by a new-to-me composer--Charles Tomlinson Griffes.  His Poem for Flute and Orchestra.  Griffes was born in Elmira, New York (1884-1920) and sadly, his life was cut short due to the Spanish Flu.  This one-movement work was written in 1918.  I suspect those here who like impression, Debussy, etc. would enjoy this work.  According to the liner notes, Copland said that [others] and he were the radicals of their day.  There's also an interesting comment by Griffes saying 'I dislike the violin.  I never use it even in my orchestral scores any more than I have to, and I would not write for it as a solo instrument.'

The recordings are from an SACD by Sharon Bezaly/Neeme Järvi/the Hague Orchestra on BIS.  Am really enjoying it so far.

Another interesting note:  Ms. Bezaly plays on a 24-carat gold flute that she had specially made for her.

Somebody wrote me a PM today on GMG, he stated I was a collector of worthless composers. He had not seen a decent composer that was worth the trouble of listening to, but was eagerly promoted by me, a worthless and uncritical listener. Well, I am proud wearing the title of a collector of being a collector of worthless composers, and you know what, here's is another one, probably worthless but hey, I listen mainly to worthless composers, so....

Richard Flury.

Der Magische Spiegel, Ballet in three Scenes.
Kleine Ballet musik.

Nuremberg SO, Paul Mann.

A great worthless discovery for me, a Swizz composer that made quite an impression, by its sheer creativity of ideas, and sticking to the Romantic era, and still have some good to say.
Toccata believed in this composer and so do I. The second volume is on its way to me.
The sound is really good, as is the performance.

I am so very sorry for you!  That was a horrible thing to have said to you!  All of us have different tastes with some overlapping and some being the polar opposite, but we need to respectful of each other's tastes...and most of all to value the person.

That's a comment on the person who wrote you the message Harry. I'm sure that some here think the same about me:

Mmhh. I don't like bitching behind the scenes through private messages.
I know it happens, even if we are very rarely informed. People rather leave the forum than tell us anything....
Dumping personal negativity on another member serves no purpose whaysoever. My free advice to those so inclined: if you don't like someone and/or his/her musical taste - please go focus on something else...

Not suggesting that that is the case here, but if anyone feels harassed by another member through private messages: please tell us.

I really need to take the time to explore more of Victoria's works.  I believe that I have a couple on CD?  :-[

Debussy's Fantaisie with Anne Queffélec, piano from Debussy's Orchestral Works (Vol. 1-4) on Chandos with the Ulster Orchestra and Yan Pascal Tortelier.

Throughly enjoyed that one leaving me in good spirits!  :)

What an idiot. Obviously, s/he doesn't know that you have all the recordings of Miley Cyrus.

I enjoyed this CD enormously, so many styles and influences, but mainly French impressionism & expressionism. Fine performances and sound.

Ha ha  :)
Remember that at my wedding my brother, in his speech, said that my wife was 'doomed to years of listening to music by deservedly neglected composers'. Someone uncharitably suggested that he could have stopped after the word 'doomed'.
Appreciate the nice comments though  :)

I already have the Chandos (which is great) - should I get this one as well Harry?

I don't have the Chandos so don't know any comparison, the CPO was my first exposure, but I did love the music and performance and want to listen again soon.
