You're mighty brave saying that about Miaskovsky on GMG! Btw, I agree with you in that he was pretty uneven. ;)

Foolish rather then brave!  ::) Actually, my thoughts are more to do with perception. With Haydn the symphonies tend to be in blocks - Paris, London etc. Which makes navigation easier.

Talking of Haydn. TD Seven Words from the Cross.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Starters for this morning, being rather cold outside, this warms the heart.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Good morning Harry, nice!  :)

I trust your fridge and wine cellar are stocked up for the current Christmas lockdown?  ;)

Good morning Harry, nice!  :)

I trust your fridge and wine cellar are stocked up for the current Christmas lockdown?  ;)

Especially the wine cellar is brimful, and more wine on the way, and I concluded that I need a bigger fridge, so as soon as we can order such things, which will take a while under the doom of the lockdown, and shortage of materials. So yes all is well stocked
Have some small side effects of the booster that I got yesterday, so I better leave of the wine, and resort to Telemann.
And how are things faring your way?
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;

Martinu 'The Parables'. I enjoy every work on this CD:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Got some nice wines, bubbly and otherwise, stocked up as well.  :)
For my booster I'll have to wait and see how soon in the new year it wil be my turn.

Thread duty:

Excellent performances.

There's not a note of the Op. 64 I would part with. Just had to say it!

I'm not sure about for listening to be honest... but the best live ballet performance I've ever been to, by a fair margin, was Romeo and Juliet. It was quite riveting.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Yep, we have a dehumidifier in the basement. Another plus is we live on a hill, so when it rains, water runs downhill.
Oh, good!

I hate it when I run across an interesting looking LP and then either see direct water damage on it or there's mold.   :(

Perahia is an excellent guide in the Mozart piano concertos. The sound on these 1970s recording is warm analogue stereo and very acceptable.

Complete unpublished Works for Organ and Harpsichord.
CD II.

Works for Harpsichord.
Roberto Loreggian plays on a L. Patella, 2005, a copy by G.B. Giusti.

From this new set the second CD, and its perfect. Loreggian has the right vibe for these works, and he brings out so much colour, plus the contrapunt is amazing as in all his other works. The Harpsichord is also one out of a top stable, it sounds like a charm and is eminently suited to the music. This set is becoming fast one of my favourites, but please do not take my word for it, there are far more knowledgeable posters on this site, that will probably correct me in every way.  Sound is pristine.

Sonata for cello and piano No. 1
with Steven Isserlis, cello
and Peter Evans, piano
on Helios

Must admit, when I first put it on, the first movement in particular left me thinking "Maybe it's too early in the day for Martinu?", but I persevered and quickly changed my mind; by the end, I was bouncing along with the music in the third movement.  :)

Hey Cato! On the Blu-Ray disc is Karajan's entire Bruckner cycle remastered in surround sound (i. e. Blu-Ray Audio).

Ah!  Thanks for the explanation!  That seems like a must!

Que,

What do they mean about "9 virtual rooms"?

PD

The short answer is that they artificially recreated the acoustic response of 9 different historical rooms in the recording studio.
