Florestan

This is a marvelous disc, featuring a superb Kinderszenen: luminous, playful and pure. The recorded sound of the piano is blissful.

A Dichterliebe for the ages.

NP:

Palmgren is a major discovery for me, his piano music is right up my alley.
"Ja, sehr komisch, hahaha,
ist die Sache, hahaha,
drum verzeihn Sie, hahaha,
wenn ich lache, hahaha! "

A tasty looking selection indeed, Andrei. I've been meaning to check those Palmgren recordings too, I've neglected his music so far.

You won't be disappointed, Karlo. Somero is ideally suited to this repertoire.

And I've recently started relistening to my Sallinen collection, I finf him an extremely fine and interesting post-Sibelius composer:

Korngold: Symphony
A fine performance from the Orchestra of Grand Canary, although Previn and Kempe remain my very favourites:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

Dvorak

Songs on words by Eliska Krasnohorska (B23)
The Orphan (B24)
Rosemary (B24 bis)

Cechalova is a not that great a singer, as a comparison with Bernarda Fink's recording of 3 songs from B23 shows. But for the other songs here, Cechalova appears to be the only singer recorded.

Indeed, Jeffrey. Before Kocsis' passing, he was working on a Bartók series for Hungaroton. It's too bad he couldn't finish the project.
