Inspired by Brian's streaming of a Telarc recording, I decided to stream one myself.  This recording of Janacek's Glagolitic Mass almost sounds like a non-standard text, so unlike Janacek does it sound.  The unique rhythm and sound that other conductors get out of the score - Ancerl or Kubelik, say - is basically absent, and in its place is an almost old school, entirely unidiomatic English choir style interpretation, though delivered with the highest degree of polish.  There is not one rough edge.  This is a recording to listen to once a decade.  The Dvorak Te Deum, on the other hand, sounds beautiful start to finish.

Predictably superb sonics.  And dig that organ in the Janacek.
The universe is change; life is opinion. - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

People would rather believe than know - E.O. Wilson

Propaganda death ensemble - Tom Araya

Gustav Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Murray Dickie, Paul Kletzki, Philharmonia Orchestra

Der Abschied. Love this recording; these days I think I like a baritone better in the lower voice for this work

I wish maestro Kletzki had recorded more Mahler. He has an EXCELLENT feel for the music! Too bad his 4th is out of print.

Bach

CD 1

One of the many pieces by Bach that I love is the so-called "Triple Concerto" for flute, violin and harpsichord. These performances I grew up with have lost none of their luster over the years. I'm so attached to this performance that I don't wish for any other, it's like a faithful friend.....

"Fidicinium Sacro-Profanum, 1683"

12 Sonatas for Violin, Violon, Altos, Cello, Violone, Organ, Archlute.

Les Plaisirs du Parnasse, David Plantier.

An excellent interpretation.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

This is an amazing recording...
I still rate this one very highly even if I realistically shouldn't. This and his EMI 4th are possibly my favourite of his recordings overall.

Isaac - Missa paschalis [Gottwald]

I particularly like the sound world of this Mass. The musical language and harmonies employed continually engage one's attention. I find this to be a particularly attractive and very engaging work. It appears to have a different, unique and a very interesting sound world of its own. It is very well delivered here.

O Magnum Mysterium:

I feel that I must make a comment regarding this set as I have enjoyed it enormously for both its content and the consistent quality of its presentations of the music.

The signature sound of Schola Cantorum Stuttgart is truly wonderful throughout this set in representing this genre of music. Gottwald consistently focuses on reproducing the music directly and continuously to the best effect. I believe that he very much succeeds in this endeavour. The choir consistently sounds very rich and full in its range of sonorities which consistently enhances the delivery of this music. It is also recorded in a warm and benign acoustic throughout. The set comes highly recommended for its thoroughly enjoyable performances throughout.

Franz Berwald.

Piano Trios, volume II.

In C major, E flat major, (fragment), in C major, (fragment), No. 4 in C major.

Kalman Drafi, Piano.
Jozsef Modrian, Violin.
György Kertesz, Cello.

These recordings from 1991 are decent as are the performances, and will do. If you find a better alternative, it might be wise to neglect the Naxos recordings.

On TV : Sinfonia Rotterdam / Conrad van Alphen.
Saint Saens 3rd symphony from the Doelen.

Sinfonia Rotterdam is basically a chamber orchestra and they performed the symphony with smallish forces. Lovely results however, very crisp and clean, with lots of beautiful details in the woodwinds.
The Doelen organ can be -as wanted - now sweet and honeyed - then loud and thundering.
Vraiment très beau!
