Martucci: Piano Trio No. 1 in C major

What this work lacks in memorable tunes, it has in poetry and eloquence galore. I don't know many Italian piano trios, but this one definitely stands out. A very worthwhile piece.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Malcolm Williamson: Symphony No.1 'Elevamini'
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Dvorak: The Noon Witch [Mackerras]

This is both thoroughly dramatic and enchanting music from Dvorak. The sound pictures are wonderful. All of the various tones and atmospheres are achieved by the wonderful orchestration in this work. The sonorities are magical. Mackerras, as expected, delivers the music superbly well here in a wonderful presentation. I had not particularly noticed the range of dynamics in this work before but the Czech PO handles everything in their stride in this wonderful recording [as one would expect].

Scion7

The piece by Tescari isn't exactly smashing, but I quite like the other material.

Romeo Cascarino: Pygmalion (1954) - JoAnn Falletta / Philadelphia Philharmonia. Listening to the album as part of an article I'm writing on the composer, who would have been 100 next week, and remains largely unknown to most listeners. Well worth a listen for those who like Copland, Morton Gould, or other mid-century American composers.

Edward Elgar: Enigma Variations, op.36. Daniel Barenboim, London Philharmonic Orchestra

First listen, sounds really good. My favorite variation, R.P.A. is now playing.

To be in France and to listen to something Prussian is rarher incongruous...  :P
