For a change - most enjoyable!
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Organ Works of the North German Baroque. Vol. XII.

Matthias Weckmann.
Complete Organ Works.
CD I.
Friedhelm Flamme, plays on a Johann-Patroclus-Moller organ, Abteikirche Marienmunster.

A fine organ, noteworthy is the fact that the bellows are operated by muscular strength by two Calcants.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

Papy Oli

A little bit of Bach Organ works by Isoir (CD10).

Malcolm Williamson: Violin Concerto
One of his finest works. I would imagine that it might appeal to anyone who admires Britten's Violin Concerto:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

Traverso

Messiaen

Usually I'm lucky with my purchases but this time after the sale was finalized I found it four times cheaper elsewhere.
   Anyway, glad I have the set at home.

The first CD  is with the interpreter Jennifer Bate, beloved by Messiaen.

This morning's listening brought to you by the letter J...

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

Not often I read much love for harp music on the site but this disc has absolutely knocked me out;

very interesting repertoire and just wonderfully played.  I expected to dip in in a fairly unfussed way and was stunned by how good this is.  This can be found on Spotify but here is a sample on YouTube which includes O'Brien talking about the Impromptu form as it applies to harp (interesting short commentary)

the warmth and BIG sound is just WOW!!

I've been enjoying this set immensely. Actually, it's been my very first exposure to the Guarneris and I fell in love with their warm and heartfelt musicianship. What other recordings of theirs are worth exploring?

Their Beethoven quartets cycle is VERY good.

I almost didn't say it because I couldn't remember whether or not you liked Beethoven, but even if not, I reckon it's worth hearing for wonderful musicianship and warm sound anyway.
