(The music is a real high point I think -- a wonderful balance of complexity and simplicity, a bridge from the six quartets for Haydn (complex) and the Prussian quartets (naive) Tchalik Quartet are good, there's quite a lot about them online)

Pascal Monteilhet on theorbo doing JS Bach & Robert de Visée - nice morning music after the passage of the remnants of Hurricane Ian through the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina - we were lucky, i.e. not much rain or wind - mainly leaves and small branches down - however, lost my Spectrum high-speed internet (on my iPhone's 'hot spot' - reminds me of the days of dial-up!  ).  Wanted to watch the weather channel but using YouTube TV requiring a fast Wi-Fi signal.  I suspect trees down elsewhere that affected the internet cables although we did not lose power?  Dave

Yesterday really enjoyed the first CD, this music is great entertaining, warmly recommended.
Is it just me thinking about Stravinsky all the time?

West Side Story

Leonard Bernstein, Jose Careras, Kiri Te Kanawa

Possibly the worst-cast recording of all time, of anything, ever! A Spaniard singing the American, with the worst American accent since Dick Van Dyke attempted a Cockney one; a New Zealand singing a Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican, with 'flu at the time of the recording... But, for all that it was -and remains- a disaster of a recording, the music itself is infectious, and Carreras and Te Kanawa (plus Tatiana Troyanos) still have wonderful voices. I always find myself enjoying it, though it's a bit of a guilty pleasure, like straining one's neck to get a glimpse of a particularly spectacular car crash or train wreck

This is a great review. (And there is a great recent cast recording led by Michael Tilson Thomas.)
