Good for you and I am pleased that you found the music enjoyable.

And Kertesz is a marvelous performance!

Cheers, Ray. Superb music and music making all round!

Quote from: DavidW on February 26, 2023, 06:02:51 AMYou should, it is great.  I returned to the forum because I wanted to see some huge discussion thread on the movie... and I was shocked to see that nobody was talking about.  Nobody was talking about the best movie of the year which also happened to be almost exclusively what this forum is about!  I was shocked!!
Sorry, but I missed which movie you were talking about?

He really knows how to take complicated music and make it sound sweet and limpid and natural and easy and interesting and expressive and surprising.  I wish he'd play some piano music by Stockhausen or Babbitt.  He makes me think of Yo Yo Mar, who did much the same with his last Cello suites.

This week's listening:

I was speechless when I listened to these symphonies, especially the 7th. Despite their menacing and dissonant sounds, they are tonal works full of what I can only describe as the man's beating heart. Inextinguishable, you could say.

As with the Stenhammar "Serenade" from last week, I haven't heard other renditions of these pieces. But the performance here seems beyond criticism, and I dearly hope that I won't be tempted to nitpick the differences when I hear other performers.

Parry: Symphony No. 2 [Bamert]

The opening of the first movement is almost overwhelming. The music in the opening movement is wonderfully scored and it is also imbued with effusive emotion. The delivery of the music here is absolutely wonderful. The movement progresses quite assertively and it is both unrelenting and very powerfully and engagingly delivered here.
The second movement, Scherzo, is a wonderfully turbulent affair. The music is unrelenting in its drive and this yields both powerful and exciting performance here as this music is very well played here. The second movement is a particularly fine piece of orchestral writing!
The third, slow movement is wonderfully lyrical. Parry's ability as an orchestrator is very well demonstrated here. The music is both wonderfully powerful and turbulent and lyrical in this movement; it is wonderfully atmospheric music and it is very well delivered here.
The music in the final movement is wonderfully driven. There are also elements of very fine lyricism here but the overwhelming sense from this music is the determined forward momentum and inherent drive of the music. It is wonderfully delivered here! There is a wonderfully appropriately dramatic conclusion to the work.

It must also be acknowledged that the orchestration is particularly wonderful throughout the work.
