Quote from: DavidW on June 24, 2023, 08:25:43 AMI tried streaming Aho's first symphony, but my modem kept rebooting.

I gave up and listened to a cd: Pettersson's 5th and 16th.  Sorry vers, 5th is just okay in my book.  But I quite liked the 16th, which is almost like an alto sax concerto.

Glad my comments prompted you to revisit; sorry you didn't like it as much as I do.

Now playing:

William Walton: Symphony No.1 in B-flat minor. Edward Gardner, BBC Symphony Orchestra

Linz

C. P. E. Bach The Complete Works for Piano Solo, Ana-Marija Markovina Vol. 26 The last CD

Iota

Schumann: Waldszenen
Maria João Pires (piano)

Exquisite and haunting pieces, like vignettes from a memory bank. Pires plays them beautifully.

Payare's face always reminds me of Mahler on that cover.

I'd been meaning to re-listen to this, so thanks to @lordlance for posting about it earlier today.
Reger: Hiller Variations, Op. 100
Järvi: Concertgebouw

An excellent set of variations. To me it seems somewhere between the seriousness of Brahms' St. Anthony Variations and the orchestral color of Dohnányi's Variations on a Nursery Tune.

Lisztianwagner

Max Reger
Piano Concerto in F minor, Op. 114

Eduard Erdmann (piano)
Hans Rosbaud & Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester

How long did you manage to stay with that one?  I may go and hear them do it in London, if I can get an aisle seat.

Made it start to finish! Something I don't always do with these longer Feldman pieces, but it was worth it. And you should!
