Bach, JS - Well-Tempered Clavier, Bks. I/II w/ András Schiff on ECM (recorded 2011, 25 or so years after his mid-80s release); now own 5 sets of these works (3 on piano; 2 on harpsichord) - there are many other options including alternate instruments, and most GMGers will have their favorites.  But if you want a piano version, Schiff's second recording is considered as one of the top choices - reviews attached for the interested.  Dave :)

Great composition, great performance!

Looking at the reviews at Amazon, for instance, opinions on this set range from intimate and charming to dull and mechanical. Judge for yourself, I'd say....

Inspired by a few folks on here, I'm revisiting the Quatour Mosaïque's Haydn CDs.  It's been quite a while since I last played them as (from what I recall) I wasn't particularly keen on them.  Currently on:  Op.33 and No.1.

I don't know the quartet.  What do you think of their performances?

I'm a big fan. It's an Hungarian quartet, historically informed performances. I don't know if you have access to a streaming service, but they recorded the complete Haydn quartets on ARCANA.

Thanks for the feedback; I'll check to see if I can listen to any of their recordings.

A neat little discovery... orchestral versions of Bach partitas.  Really good!  Purists can move on...

Hooooooooo.

Is that Hooooooooo as in meets expectations, or Hooooooooo as in exceeds expectations, or Hooooooooo as in so good it shatters expectations into tiny little bits?

I have that set on my shopping list.
