Great stuff! Although I haven't heard that performance.

After thouroughly enjoying Michel Plasson's recordings of Milhaud's Symphony No. 1 & No. 2 (plus the wonderful Suite provençale), listening to the other two he recorded (No. 6 & No. 7, coupled with the Ouverture méditerranéenne).

Surprisingly good works!

They are, indeed, Paul. Quite stark and really not too far removed from his orchestral writing. I mean the musical language could have been from no other.

There are of course a lot of good recordings, so perhaps sample a bit on you-tube.

I haven't heard the one you mention, maybe it's fine.

Among the modern recordings, Richter/Borodin/EMI is good, but a bit 'serious'; I like for example also the fresh Kantorow/Rouvier, which is also dirt-cheap on amazon.co.uk, in case you need the CD,

For some later, historical-performance addition with a lot of different accents and phrases, maybe Yudina/Beethoven4

Thank you for these🎼🎼

Hi Que - +1 - just looking on Amazon USA this morning for Beethoven w/ L'Archibudelli - a 5-CD set (below) can be had for $24; now, I have all of these other works, but a great deal for those wanting to acquire some period instrument performances of this excellent group.  Dave

The Hartmann is a real thrill ride! In terms of energy, the second movement finale brings to my mind the finale of Ginastera's Piano Concerto No. 1.

My favourite version of my favourite Dvorak symphony !

I guess the proverbial *pounds the table* is in order  ;D.

vers la flamme

Sergei Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor, op.18. Sviatoslav Richter, Stanisław Wisłocki, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra

This is a seriously intense, dark, almost gothic reading of this concerto. I find it quite to my tastes  ;D I knew it was good, but I hadn't heard it in some time—it might be my favorite. From the "Pianist of the Century" boxed set on DG, which includes quite a few other iconic recordings of great concertos. One of my greatest purchases!
