A lovely set - I'm sorry that he didn't record more Bax.

Bax is a composer largely unknown to me except for his string quartets, should I spend more time on his symphonies? ( or other suggestions ? )

I purchased yesterday a CD box ( 30 £ ) and I have to pay 10 for import charges,that's what I call progress. ::)

Valeri Polyansky's recordings tend to leave me with mixed feelings, but I think he makes a fantastic case for the underappreciated 2nd symphony here.

The symphony box is available as a download from Qobuz at bargain price in the UK - probably the same in the EU: https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/search?q=bax+handley&i=boutique.  (The only problem with downloads is of course that you can't sell them or give them away if they're not to your taste.)

I'm not the dowlnload type or it must be impossible to get otherwise.I  guess that this is a favorable set?

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"

The new erato

I need to listen more to the symphony, but the harp concerto is pleasant (as such concertos tend to be) and reasonably interesting. Not many elements of the barnstorming Mosolov though. I think the Russian pre revolution bourgeoisie would be rather pleased with this.

I am please with it, greatly! But then I have 1/3 of Russian pre bourgeoisie blood in my body.  :laugh:

I do like that one. Crazy and weird but sufficiently short to cope with.  :laugh:
