Light music or more than that? Including the once famous London Suite:
... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

Auditioning on Spotify:

Comments on these recordings are welcome!  :)

Q

And your comments? :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I genuinely have never understood why this is. I think all three are masterpieces.

Neither have I. I wish Brahms had written a whole pile more of them.

A disc of pure entertainment;

Easily the best most vibrant "Tam O'Shanter" Overture ever - astonishing sound for a 1959 recording and blistering playing

This programme featured on the the first LP record I ever bought for myself;

Actually the quality of the music and playing stands the test of time.  The only track not included in "Witches' Brew" from the Decca LP is the also excellent Ansermet "Sorcerer's Apprentice" - still one of the best versions I know and available in various couplings to this day
I've heard about that LP and been wanting to get ahold of a copy of it.  :)

Off to scrounge around in my CD collection to see what might be a good way to start the day....

One reason to buy might be the splendid historical organs that are well recorded.
Musically this is all in Venetian late Baroque/ Rococo style.
Pescetti was a fellow student of Baldassare Galuppi when they were educated by Antonio Lotti.
In my estimation on the basis of these sweet frills, Pescetti was less of an original musical mind than Galuppi although entertaining most of the time.

I'm curious if this would better for me on a harpsichord, the designated instrument for this music even though most of it is here performed on organ.

A fine discovery in 2020, and one that gives great pleasure. Very remarkable music. Well performed and recorded. A name to remember.

Listening to a lovely CD from Harmonia Mundi called W.A. Mozart:  Concertos KV. 107 J. Ch. Bach with the London Baroque.  It's HMC 901395.  Must admit, I don't often listen to recordings with harpsichord on it, but this one hit the spot!

It's of works composed during the transition from baroque to classicism and features works by W. A. Mozart, his father Leopold, and Johann Christian Bach.

A lovely way to start the day.

Agreed.  I think that they are some of the finest string quartets of the Romantic era.

First listen, never heard the composer before.  I was shocked when this recording blew me away!

Highly recommended for any that like French baroque.

Most of my musical collection is stored alphabetically by composer's last name, but I do have several storage boxes arranged by performer's names when the recordings are a wide mixture of different composers - so last few days going through those discs:

Fernandez, Eduardo - two CDs released in the early 80s (and likely purchased shortly after release, along w/ a 2-disc guitar concertos set) - might have seen him locally and/or read some good reviews; short bio below and more HERE - assume still teaching and performing?

Frey, Elinor - Berlin Sonatas - name derived from composers associated w/ the city, such as Carl Abel, CPE Bach, Franz Benda and others.  Performances on period instruments; her 5-string cello made in 2012 by Francis Beaulieu after a 1718 instrument by Barak Norman - excellent MusicWeb review attached - wonderful performances - must take a look on Amazon to see what else she has done?  Dave :)

QuoteEduardo Fernández (born 1952) is a Uruguayan classical guitarist, teacher and arranger-composer. He received prizes in the 1972 Porto Alegre and 1975 Radio France competitions, won the Premio Andrés Segovia in 1975 and debuted in New York in 1977. After his 1983 London debut, Fernández was signed by Decca Records. His textbook has been published in English as Technique, Mechanism, Learning (2002). (Source)
