Brandenburg Concertos for piano duo

The two string quartets

I can't explain myself why I disliked the 2nd quartet before. That's an assured masterpiece. Very personal, dense, chromatic, with struggle and lots of attractive gestures. Without doubts my kind of music. The 1st SQ has traces of Dvorak, but it already shows a personal stamp. The Adagio (which is not much so, actually, rather an Allegretto) has an attractive form and harmony.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Stürmisch Bewegt

Greatly enjoying these Sauguet SQs courtesy of Youtube! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU98fzEvq2w&t=722s.  They seem to be most personal documents, particularly the second, dedicated to the composer's Mom.
Leben heißt nicht zu warten, bis der Sturm vorbeizieht, sondern lernen, im Regen zu tanzen.

First disc. Enjoyable, well written, but nothing particular to make them stand out.

I own that set too & have quite enjoyed it. Somehow, I've begun thinking of it as at times Brahms-like music, of a certain ambition and seriousness!

That looks like a very nice set ... and extremely expensive nowadays. It's 1030 Euros now on the Fnac page, for example  ...

Arnold: 2nd Symphony.

After advocacy on the Arnold thread by Jeffrey of the BBC MM disc of the 2nd Symphony I took myself to the local WH Smiths and purchased a copy of the magazine and enclosed CD. For the last two weeks or so Barry Wordsworth's rendition with the BBC Concert Orchestra has become an obsession. Moving on to LP and Sir Charles Groves I thought Groves may suffer from first love syndrome, but no, I enjoyed the work equally under his baton.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Luckily I bought my set in time, now that it is sold out prices are skyrocketing and the hungry sellers can cash in on their loot. Buy multiple sets and put them up for sale when sold out. These are not music lovers, they just want to cash .  Search well is the message, you sometimes find second-hand CDs more expensive than new ones. This set was mainly made for the Dutch market with a book with the complete text in the Dutch and English language. It took quite a while before  it was oop.

I think the opposite. They're pleasant enough but lack strong development and ambition. They're too light to my tastes overall.

Röntgen: Piano Concerto No. 7
Ruders: Piano Concerto No. 2
Schumann: Piano Concerto - Fleisher/Szell

The Röntgen is neo-Baroque -- under the influence of Hindemith and Stravinsky -- unlike his big Romantic early concertos.

The Ruders is of the plink-plank-plunk school -- perhaps modeled on Bartok 2? -- but it's very entertaining plink-plank-plunk until the middle of the 2nd movement where it briefly becomes (parodically?) obnoxious plink-plank-plunk.

Fleisher/Szell is certainly one of the very best recordings of the Schumann, if not quite as magical as Moravec/Neumann.

Symphony 'Vigil'

Modern yet approachable and somber.

He's an interesting composer. I like the 4th and 5th symphonies.
