The voice of Fischer-Dieskau comprises a large part of my Schubert Lieder collection.

I have it all one box

and many EMI boxes ,the mono recordings included

I intend to listen and spend  more time with the Schubert lieder,a composer I felt real connected at a early age.Perhaps I'm a romantic at heart. ;)

How did you find Bonynge's version of Coppelia?

Loved ithis work on this first listen, Fergus, very entertaining. Looking forward to listening to a full version of Sylvia soon.

The Hangover Square soundtrack contains the famous Concerto macabre, but the rest of the score is also very good. Sombre, brooding, disquieting. The score for Citizen Kane is (I think) given complete - 50 minutes long. There's a lot of snippets that surely wouldn't make it into a suite, because they are too short and unconnected to communicate much except to the diehard Kane fan. The disc does contain a rarity, the opera aria sung by Kane's mistress, a highly effective piece in an international post-romantic/verismo style. High production values: playing, sound recording, detailed booklet notes, text and translations of the sung item. Very impressive despite the musical non-sequiturs of the Kane score

Stravinsky
Symphony in Eb, Op. 1

Here is the story: I had never listened to this ever before (and I cannot even tell how long I have owned this box.) Since Monday, I have listened to it four times. So, yes, I like it, and much better than (clearly) I had expected.  Of course, the music (esp. the outer movements) is much more foursquare than is characteristic of the Stravinsky we all (or, most of us) know and love; to be expected, as he wrote it under Rimsky-Korsakov's close supervision.

It makes for unusually harmonious listening with at least two other pieces I listened to today:

Taneyev
Symphony № 1 in e minor
Russian Phil
Polyansky

Nielsen
Symphony № 2, Op. 16 « De fire Temperamenter »
(dedicated to Busoni)
Symphony № 4, Op. 29 « Det uudslukkelige »

It's too bad that Sinopoli never got around to recording Berg's Wozzeck as his handling of Strauss' Elektra is truly Expressionistic in it's delivery.

Last work for the night:

Sibelius
Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 43
New York Phil.
Bernstein

Sibelius' breakthrough symphony and a work that brought him international acclaim. It's certainly easy to hear why. Next to Beethoven, Mahler and Bruckner, Sibelius' symphonies certainly stand along side of those, IMHO.

Your interesting review André encourages me to listen to this CD again.

Early morning listening:
Klami - Karelian Rhapsody.
Some of Klami's music shows the influence of Ravel and Stravinsky as well as Sibelius.
I greatly enjoy this CD:

One of my most memorable moments at the cinema  https://youtu.be/wpH6yWqTDz8

Edo de Waart's cycle of the Rachmaninov symphonies flies under the radar which is a shame. He brings something new, a lightness of touch which I find very appealing. The critics didn't like them but I do.

I remember this fragment very well and it is beautiful described and analyzed while you hear the piece in the background..
I have the complete set with Mahler symphonies under his. baton wich seems non existing. It is
OOP (RCA).In my eyes it deserves more attention as the Rachmaninov you mentioned.
