This symphony is quite thrilling. I love it.

It is thrilling (Popov 1). My first time hearing it and I was mightily impressed.

Bartók: String Quartet No. 4 - Tesla Quartet (livestream 5-29-21)

This excellent quartet is roaming through the six quartets, and livestreaming rehearsals, discussion, and performances. Tonight was No. 4, and I can heartily recommend it.

Unattractive cover aside (It's a sculpture from the 18th century), there is some amazing playing on this album, and the sound (24/96k FLAC) is outstanding.

I haven't listened to this version yet. It's still unwrapped, in the pile. Ancerl, Kubelik and especially Bakala are firm favourites, though the latter is sonically dated. I have high hopes for this Mackerras version  :)
I generally do come down on the side of the original version of the Glagolitic Mass being superior to the revised version(s), but not many other conductors other than Mackerras seem to have taken it up; I only know of the Marek Janowski recording offhand. I believe that's because it is significantly more difficult but don't know details.

I think you may like Fernando de Luca

https://www.saladelcembalo.org/archivio/a2014_13.htm

The guy that plays everything written for the harpsichord!  :)
I like his site, and his style flamboyantly Italian style.

The Purcell double bill today:

Recordings on small labels are often overlooked, but this sends Kenneth Gilbert packing!
Stil in the best of British tradition, but improved. Considered in approach, with ample use of hesitations. But the effect is not stately and more poetic. Vivid and playful in the faster movements
This could easily be someone's 1st choice. Mandryka, you might like this. :)

The issue I have with Belder is that he is an excellent harpsichordist, but somehow everything starts to sound very similar.
This sounds totally as if Purcell lived in the next village to Bach's. Belder's performances are very well done, in state of the art HIP style, on an attractive (big, full) sounding harpsichord. But I don't get much emotion out of it, it's like a lush sounding run through... An excellent recording up to personal preference!

Noted Que (looks like you've well and truly discovered the joys of streaming), however this sunny Sunday my mood is more in tune with this than Purcell

Sir Adrian Boult and the London Symphony & Philharmonic Orchestras

Commencement activities are today, so it is time to listen to Elgar:

I think Boult was in his 80's when he set down these performances, but you would never know listening to this. He must have performed this music a trillion times, but he still gives this music life; could the same be said for the rest of us? I don't listen to the P&C Marches too often, but I should; the #2 & #3 marches in a minor key are quite delightful.

The more that I listen to this music the more that I like it. Naturally, I suppose in a way, the more mature the work the more involved it became and the more he developed his own voice.

I very much like that set!  :)

I also think that the general perspective on music in "galant" or rococo style has radically changed for the better.
