Stupendous set that.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!

From this set -

I'm not familiar with many sets of the complete SQs, but this one is certainly satisfying.

I'm certainly looking forward to digging into the rest of the set: the 15th was mightily impressive, indeed.

If I wondered if the superb 13th Quartet was somehow a fluke, this visit with the 1st erases all doubt.  This is a cracking piece.

In fact, I am going to take this as a cue for the next symphony to listen to:

Symphony № 11 in bb minor, Op. 34 (1932)

That's a great disc.  The 24/96 download is a worthwhile improvement over the original CD.

+1 for the disc and the hi-res download does sound superb - In an act of pure self indulgence I very recently bought a signed score of the symphony - see attached image.  Also got a rather nice picture of Moeran framed for the wall of the room I have my music in....

Irons

Alwyn: Concerto Grosso No. 1/2/3.

Good programming to listen in sequence as each Concerto Grosso has something different to say in a different way. The only one recorded previously the 2nd, which although having a glorious second movement I liked the other two more.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

The subtitle of the double album is "Music from the Time of Albrecht Dürer.
The first disc is built around De La Rue's Missa "lste est speciosa", great performances.
Other than the cover suggests, this is a collaboration with Capilla Flamenca, Beauty Farm and Schola Gregoriana Lovaniensis and Joris Verdin at the organ.

It feels like I haven't listened to this music for far too long. Strange because listening to music like this gives me an almost immediate inner joy that I hardly experience anywhere in the same way in music from later periods.
It is music for the aristocrats, refined and joyous.

Hmmm...I just clicked on the link and it took me to the webpage. It might have something to do with your browser.

But, I'll link it again:

I wonder if anyone else is having trouble with this link?

Works for me. I use Microsoft Edge - mainly out of laziness, it is a load of rubbish.

This is a marvellous disc. The sound seemed to leap out of the speakers - one of the best recordings I have heard and I am listening on a system not nearly as high-powered as your own system. Performances are of great urgency. The Bliss is a work which I've increasingly come to enjoy recently and this is the best performance I have heard.
