New arrival, listening to the 1st and last (7th) CD to roughly bracket the compositions. So far excellent in every way. Sadly, the cheapo set I acquired has no track listing or liner notes, so I'll have to crib from Da Capo website.  ::)

Nice! Apart from lack of track listing or liner notes ....

Bit of a shame, because (thus far, 2 out of 7 discs ) I find it (Holmboe complete SQ Kontra) such an outstanding set that I'd really like to peruse the liner notes. Skimmed them online but too lazy to copy/paste right now.

Very nice work - I think I will listen to it again later in bed... :D

How is the recording, Andre??

Fine, very fine. I need to give it a couple more turns before I have a clear view of the shape and details of these symphonies. The orchestration is especially sophisticated.

3 polonaises op 71
Fantaisie op 49
Barcarolle op 60
Tarantelle op 43
Rondo for 2 pianos op 73.

Excellent recordings of some of Chopin's best solo works. The Barcarolle is my favourite Chopin piece and this is a superb version of it.

Coincidentally I am listening to Symphony No.1 again now Cesar and enjoy it increasingly. Respighi, Braga Santos and Vaughan Williams came to mind whilst listening to it.

Interesting, Jeffrey. I did know that the music reminded of some composers, but I couldn't pinpoint which ones. I'll have to listen to it later then.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Dvořák 9 and Schubert 5: these two symphonies are taking quite a beating in Symphonic Addict's thread in the Polling Station. I thought I'd show my support for these two works that are among my favorites and have been for over half a century. Played them both in band arrangements in high school.

Sarge

Who would have imagined that precisely there was a CD with those two works. Even though they have wide exposire, I haven't reached the point of disliking them either.

Symphony No. 3

An underrated work in my view. I like this performance, but I think it lacks more fire.
