Well, what to say......very fine music, played with authority and spirit and last but not least ,beautifully published
It's a kind of anthology  of the Borgia era.
I love it ! :)
Glad that you're enjoying it!  I should revisit it--particularly as I've enjoyed other works that I have with Hesperion XX(I).  And, yes, I do agree that their presentation (with all of the historical information) is wonderful.  I think that the reason that it felt kind of 'strange' to me had to do with the 'jumping around' stylistically of the music.

In any event, happy listening!  :)

English String Music.

Britten-Bliss-Bridge-Berkeley.

Sinfonia of London, John Wilson.

SACD recording.

One of the best SACD recordings Chandos produced over the years. As to the performance; Wilson is a very capable conductor and knows full well, how to present the music at the best possible angle, a great talent, of which I expect much good.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

The Ring, an Orchestral Adventure, arranged in 1991 by Henk de Vlieger.
Siegfried Idyll.

Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Neeme Jarvi.

SACD recording.

A excellent SACD remastering of this recording. The Ring in jus 67 minutes with all the aural satisfaction of the orchestral parts and non of the screaming voices. It pleases me greatly.

Enjoying this journey very much. As with the DSCH set, repeated listening is beneficial, with the first few embedded and a bit more familiar, now.

The #1 is different again. Lead on, Macduff!

I think that my steed was balking at curveting at the time; will try performing the maneuvers again shortly.  ;)  :)

The musical language may be anachronistic but I keep returning to this powerful and moving work:

Metamorphosen

This music sounds like a tired old man looking back on his life in a kind of reverie
Horrible things have happened and there is a kind of longing for the past which becomes audible by a reference to the "Eroica" that can be heard almost like a lost sign.

Morning listening on Spotify:

Dear Que you're correct, this album is prodigious I have it in streaming,, have a nice day

The subtitle of the double album is "Music from the Time of Albrecht Dürer".
It's a mixed program with chant and organ interludes, but the first disc is built around De La Rue's Missa "lste est speciosa". Other than the cover suggests, this is a collaboration between Capilla Flamenca, Beauty Farm and Schola Gregoriana Lovaniensis and Joris Verdin at the organ.

Performances are absolutely splendid.  :)

Very interesting description. Makes me want to hear it.

For me the wonder of Micheal Tobias  and Johann Grabbe.

Tobias works is riveting, captivating, charming, while Grabbe Madrigals is absolutely good, on CPO, , these were me morning listen , not just winner but win win-win, podium & medals, there triumphants

Karl Henning

It's a beautiful piece. Strauss was not always admirable as a man, but the Metamorphosen is thoroughly admirable music.
