I've always actually preferred #2 to #3, but after some time and distance, this has been an enjoyable listen. A bit heavy on the 'agonised wailing' for my long-suffering wife, but I find its simplicity and Glass-like repetition pretty soothing.

The second symphony is underrated.  It is a very good work that is under-performed and under-recorded.

vers la flamme

I'll have to revisit Górecki's 2nd. I love the 3rd, but the 2nd never left much impression on me.

Last night I decided I wanted to try some Mompou again, picked the wrong kind of Mompou, then decided what I picked would be much better for work-from-home music today.

I wonder how long your Penderecki avatar will be visible.  :D

Hah, well, I hope to keep Penderecki up at least after Halloween is over, then I'm not sure who I'll put up. But I have a better understanding of Penderecki now than I ever did in the past. He's another case where I dismissed him and gave a lot of collection away to some other members only to buy it all back again. ??? :P Yeah, crazy...I know. ;D

Now playing this new acquisition:

NP:

Penderecki
St. Luke Passion
Lucas Meachem (baritone), Slawomir Holland (narrator), Sarah Wegener (soprano), Matthew Rose (bass)
Warsaw Boys Choir
Kraków Philharmonic Chorus
Montreal Symphony Orchestra
Kent Nagano

OMG!!! This is unbelievably good! The only other performance I even know well is the Penderecki conducted recording on Argo, which is excellent, but I'm rather enjoying this I must say.

Me want this !  8)

Qobuz had the download for $9.

Now listening to the other modern recording of the Koppel Piano Concerto No. 3 (I don't have any of the composers recordings).  The orchestra here is beefier and more forward, but I think I prefer the sound of the piano in the Rikke Sandberg recording.

Too crazy, actually!  ;D

This time you should keep your new acquisitions for the sake of your bank account  ;)

Indeed. On the bright side, I was able to give someone else the gift of music and this is always a pleasurable endeavor for me.

I had some Birtwistle, but I gifted to a friend here. I haven't listened to any of Birtwistle's music in ages, so I might have to revisit something of his at some juncture. I believe the member Steve Ridgway is quite the fan of this composer.
