Still immersing myself in the music of Debussy, this time with solo piano music and Michelageli's wonderful performances of his Images.

This is a fine recording, the cover is from a LP.  :)

"Gramophone" record of the year.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I think that you'd like Arnell's 3rd Symphony Lol. Arnell's mother was killed during the Blitz on London. Arnell was unable to get back from the USA. I think that a lot of this experience impacted on the symphony - along with the Stanley Bate it's one of my favourite Dutton releases.

You are hitting my wallet again, Jeffrey. ;D

Georg Philipp Telemann.
Complete Wind Concertos Volume I.
La Stagione Frankfurt & Camerate Koln, Michael Schneider.
Recorded in 2005-2006.

That's bloody marvelous, a perfect performance in very good sound. A better representation of Telemann's music will be hard to come by, the standard is pretty high. I am really enjoying it. Hat tip to Que and Sonicman (Dave) for their enthusiastic recommendation.

A couple of sonatas off Georg Muffat's Armonica Tributo (Sigiswald Kuijken, Petite bande).

A first listen to this composer.

How can anyone live without a copy of Arnell's Third Symphony?
No witty replies please  8)

New arrival (second-hand)

More Debussy with Gieseking's superb performances of the Préludes.
I remember one of the piano teachers at my old school strongly recommending this recording.

Coincidentally yesterday I was listening to Michelangeli's DGG recording of the Préludes.

How can anyone live without all the Symphonies or orchestral works. I am glad I bought them in one go some years ago.

Excellent!  :) And I had a hunch that quality of the recording would be good.

Clara Schumann.
Piano Trio in G minor.

Robert Schumann.
Fantasiestucke opus 88.
Piano Trio No. 3 in G minor.

Swiss Piano Trio.
SACD recording.

This recording proves abundantly that Clara's compositions are at the same level as that of her husband. She was a very good composer in her own right. So Brava!
All three pieces on this SACD recording get a good outing, with a controlled passion and a perfect balance in this ensemble.
The sound is of course very good. I find that the engineer Bernhard Hanke is one of the best in the field, and is frequently hired to produce SACD recordings.

I like Michelangeli in Debussy too. Earlier today I was listening to his recording of the Images and Children's Corner.

A superb recording of what is more or less the edition of the score put together by the conductor Ingelbrecht and his wife with the approval of Debussy and D'Anunzio.

Clearly, spending any time away from GMG is not recommended. What an explosion of posts in different threads!

Perhaps this post should belong in the 'Unpopular Opinions' thread... listening to Nielsen's symphonies again a fair bit over the last couple of weeks makes me wonder whether I prefer them to the Sibelius symphonies. Not this recording, mind, but the Schonwandt.

Arnell's symphonies are outstanding. Nobody can live a full and well-rounded life without them. All such attempts are merely self-deception.

Just kidding.

Honest.
