Setting aside that Honegger is usually described as being Swiss.

Not usually described, he is described as Swiss even though he spent most of his life in France. He spent considerable time vacationing in Switzerland and considered it his home. Unfortunately, living in Switzerland would have meant not much work hence his connection with France and, more importantly, Paris.

First-Listen Sunday

Franck
Prélude, Choral et Fugue, M21
Dominique Cornil

Beautiful work --- it's almost monolithic in a way. I haven't heard any other performances, but Cornil plays it admirably well.

Debussy
Nocturnes, L. 91
New Philharmonia Orchestra, John Alldis Choir
Boulez

I haven't heard this work in ages as I don't listen to Debussy's orchestral music too often (I'm usually listening to his solo piano music, chamber works or mélodies). Lovely piece.

This was a house he rented.

Que - why does it have two entrances? Or is it two separate residences?

That was not the house he lived in,this is the one,the Bartolotti House.  :)

Tomaso Albinoni.
Trio Sonatas, opus 1.

Parnassi Musici, on period instruments.

One of the best German ensembles I know. Perfect performances.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

No, and yes.

Yes, he lived in part of the Bartolotti House. But only in the annex later built behind the main house you pictured.

As you know as a fellow Dutchman, we call that the "Achterhuis".  :) The picture I showed, is the facade of the part Leonhardt actually lived in. Instead of the canal, it faces a garden.

Thank you Que,so he lived in a more quiet part of the house. :)

:D

Boy, poor Leonhardt would roll in his grave if he knew he's the laughing stock of GMG.  :D

And btw, I wrote "one leg in the grave" because (1) in Romanian we use the same word for both foot and leg
[snip]

As is also true FWIW in Russian and (I am half guessing) Czech.

And now, thanks to my hours with Duolingo, I understand Achterhuis

Must have been wonderful!  :)

What I'm wondering about is what he was doing with all that silver and Delft ware...

He must have been an obsessive collector, like us!  :D

I don't think he went to all kinds of flea markets. :)
It may have been a hobby and at the same time a means of making his wealth visible or of creating an environment from a bygone era.
I myself prefer an Art Deco interior rather than the contemporary cold modern interior.

Collecting, in a sense, gives meaning and direction to an otherwise meaningless existence.
There are, of course, many other meanings that are more harmful, such as governments robbing their population.
