What a great disc this is:

Absolutely! As was that Honegger Ozawa recording you were listening to the other day. ;)

I own two other performances of this work and neither one of them match the passion of this performance. These other performances sound so lifeless by comparison. The only problem I have with this recording is the audio quality is a bit too reverberant and boomy, but the superb performance more than makes up for it.

Greatest performance since Haitink and best recording:

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

Yes and I quite like that performance in fact.

Don't know that recording but the work is gorgeous, one of the best Mozart ever wrote, and the compettition is fierce.
"Beauty must appeal to the senses, must provide us with immediate enjoyment, must impress us or insinuate itself into us without any effort on our part. ." — Claude Debussy

Brisk! Enjoyable, though.

Gave one of my Ivan Moravec LPs a second cleaning (hoping that it might help things more).  It's a Connoisseur Society one.  This one:

His playing is exquisite!  Love the selections that he recorded--really wish that he had recorded all of them.   :(  Particularly loved his rendering of "La Cathédrale Engloutie"...I could just see the Cathedral rising from the sea and then at the end, slowly sinking back down into the sea with the last final air bubbles and ripples slowly stopping and it's as if it was never there to begin with.

Now on:  Children's Corner followed by Clair de lune.

One thing which I just noticed is that the last Prelude on Side One (La Terrasse) was recorded in Prague by Supraphon on a Petrof.  All the other selections were recorded in NYC on a Baldwin Concert Grand.

Bach, CPE - Cello Concertos w/ Nicolas Altstaedt - fiery performances; now I already own these recordings in an older release w/ Anner Bylsma & also in the Brilliant 'Classic Cello Concertos' box, BUT after reading the attached reviews last year, had to add this to my collection - now I did not include the David Hurwitz comments which gave the performance a 4/10 rating but that spurred in on to a purchase!   Dave

A great work!

It is quite nice, Jeffrey. I'm slowly warming back up to Dutilleux. In many ways, I can understand Boulez's viewpoint about him, but, yet, I do think he wrote some excellent music.

I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

So it appears that it's a Debussy day/!  I've heard of that pianist before but don't recall hearing any of his recordings; I'll have to look into them.  :)  Do you also enjoy Moravec's recordings?
