Just had to listen again:

Papandopulo: Piccolo Concerto

Played on piccolo here, despite what the cover says.  Wonderful composer.

I saw the cover first, and thought: from a Rutter Harpsichord concerto, dear Lord, deliver us ....

From what I remember of that CD,  the Rutter wasn't bad, although the Francaix was easily the best part.

Speaking of harpsichords--

Two successive CDs of Johann Sebastian Bach--Partitas 4 through 6 (originally an EMI/Virgin recording) on the first, Cantatas 152, 56, 55, and 114 prefaced by the introductory Sonata from number 182 (from the Teldec cycle with Harnoncourt) on the second.

James Sinclair

It's a shame Sinclair didn't finish his Ives cycle. He only recorded the 1st and 3rd. Of course, his series on Naxos is splendid. He's an expert on the composer and I believe he's head of the Ives Society (I could be mistaken, but I read this somewhere).

Françaix is a composer I need to investigate more, though perhaps not along the Mirror Image full immersion model 8)

Symphonic Addict

Respighi: Ciaccona (after Vitali) for violin, strings and organ, P. 87

Remarkable stuff and nice combination of forces.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Lovely, Cesar. I love all of Respighi's works for violin and orchestra (and the violin/piano works, too).

Nicola Benedetti, violin

A beautifully rendered performance. You can hear how Benedetti performs that she loves this music. Passionate, but, by turns, wistful and yearning.

Morning listening:

I found this to be a satisfying musical adventure. Those releases are the highlights in ones musical life.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

We are fortunate that thanks to a printed edition this requiem by a music master of the cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand survived. Stylistically it reminds me of Richafort. Even though it is more modest, I'm grateful for having another Franco-Flemish requiem from that period to enjoy.  :)

Great looking CD Cesar! I enjoyed 'Church Windows' on the radio yesterday.
PS I just found a cheap copy online, so I ordered it  ::)
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).
