I tried Henze's 2nd Symphony a few weeks ago, and let's just say it didn't compel me to explore his output any further... ::) His style is pretty much the antithesis of my musical tastes.

There was considerable evolution of his style over his career, the early works being more thorny.

I know, John, I know. I enjoy his music too, every once in a while.  :)

Well, I certainly enjoy more than "every once in awhile". :)

But which Henze are you referring to, Kyle? He was a man of many musical hats. Personally, I've enjoyed much from his pen.

Karl must have the dates mixed up. The 6th is from 1944 and the 7th is from 1945.

Rubbra
String Quartet No. 3, Op. 112
Sterling String Quartet

From this 2-CD set -

For me, Rubbra's SQs are some of the most underrated of the 20th Century and I say this with complete sincerity. Marvelous works.

Hello Listening to a quintecensial album called
[asin]MIRROR OF VOICES [/asin]
Whit has personnel goesEvelyne D'Asnoy- mezzo-soprano ,André Vanderbosch Baritone, Catherine Parmentier Lute.
A Credential recording to listen own and love, I received this early this morning, an enigmatic CD of musicians of north of France:
Roland DE Lassus Réponsories pour ténèbres. (tracks 1-6)

Emanuel Adrienssen, Pierre DE Manchicourt, Theodor Crequillon, Jean Guyot de Châtelet (Tracks 8-26), great sounding rendition of French Chanson genre as a whole, better than Naxos ,Eponymously name CD and also Musique D'Abord  Fricassée Parisienne.

Yes this recording of Brusel of 1963 remastered here on this KOCH label international is very good.

Why, yes, unfortunately Mozart, Schubert and Chopin don't make it even to your once-in-a-blue-moon list of composers.  :)

Nevertheless we can still be friends forever.  :-*

Indeed, not. :( Oh well, at least, we have some composers we enjoy in common. :) And, yes, until I can no longer breathe, we'll be friends.

Same here, although in my case it was the Violin Concertos.
I have the same problem with Schnittke: nothing I've heard makes me want to hear more.
