Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
The First book of Psalms by David.
CD 1.

Psalms, Lute and Organ music.

Gesualdo Consort Amsterdam, Harry van der Kamp.

I have a great love for the First and Second books of Psalms by David. They ease the strain on my mind, and give me a window to what we call God. The spiritual factor is the drive in these compositions. And what perfect performance and sound. The Dutch book presentation is exemplary.

They look very fine and they are printed in the Dutch language.the complete set is still available.  (250 €)  :)

Haydn: the last set of 3 piano trios (numbers 43 to 45 in the more modern Landon numbering)

I listened to each work twice over this afternoon and evening. Thoroughly delightful all round. And that means I've finally finished the Beaux Arts box after about... 16 months? I still haven't listened to some of the other things I purchased at the same time.

I listened to that set in its entirety on 9 consecutive days during the Spring 2020 lockdown.  :D

Luckily I bought the set when it was released, so I have the Dutch books. Number 0081, first book of psalms,. But by Jove 250€ is a lot of money if you still want to have them

These are really superb performances despite the bargain price tag.

I've found that after listening to Sibelius, snippets from the various works resound in my head for days afterwards. I think Siblelius might even be my favourite symphonist.

Even better than the first volume.

Even with Haydn I'm not sure I could maintain the course for that long.

I agree - it's a super disc. My favourite 20th Century symphonists are Vaughan Williams and Miaskovsky but I think that Sibelius may be the greatest.

Max Reger.

CD VI from VII.

Piano concerto in F minor.

Amadeus Webersinke, Piano.
Dresdner Philharmonie, Gunther Herbig.

The middle movement "Largo con gran espressione" is unbelievable beautiful, and well played in this performance, but I must add that the first and third movement do not move me at all, simply to loud and key bashing, despite some gorgeous episodes, but they never last long. The sound in the first movement is a bit muffled.

Part of this Sibelius album...

Which has some very valuable and even quite unique things on it, but which is profoundly annoying at the same time because it combines that new material with repeats of a large chunk of this album. The very same recordings. And as a result doesn't have room for some of Sibelius' works for unaccompanied male choir.

Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.
