Another great VW disc, combining two of his greatest works in fine performances under Abravanel.

Listening to the first CD of Kooiman's AoF for Coronata, which I'm very happy to have received today. It seems wonderfully noble, strong and gentle, and humane.  Lyrical too, with long singing phrases.

(Cpt 4 playing now - very intense playing.)

I owe Holst an apology: this is exactly the sort of fare which fits CRB's "Classical Lite" mission, and I've made the mistake of casting the blame at the composer's feet. (Might as well dock Bach for all the use they make of that one Orchestral Suite ....)
I'm still a little disappointed (cannot help it) that the fourth movement is an arrangement of a number from the F Major Military Band Suite, but that disappointment is really a wish that he might have written more.
