Koopman Bach cantatas bwv 54, 161, 208

Cantata 161 is such a treat.  It was so sublime.  If you haven't listened to it in awhile, check it out! 8)

Another of Naxos free downloads this month:

The Bomtempo earlier was quite pleasant. The above seems to follow a similar path. Entertaining stuff.

Scarlatti, Domenico (1685-1757) - Keyboard Sonatas w/ Pieter-Jan Belder on harpsichord - I already own a lot of Scarlatti on harpsichord, fortepiano (Planes), and piano (Sudbin, Hewitt, Pletnev), but Belder has done a 'complete set' on a variety of instruments; at the moment, 8 of his 3-disc Brilliant sets (12 total) are available at BRO for about $2 a CD - check the link if interested and if shipping is not a big issue?  Listening to Vol. 1 at the moment (the first K48) and enjoying - reviews have been generally good to excellent and a few are attached, including our own Jens Laurson, who was less kind in his comments.  Dave :)

Hi, Dave! Please, I would very much prefer to read your own reviews rather than other people's. We Romanians have a saying: Beautiful is what I like, not what is beautiful:D

Decided to sample Uhlig's Schumann before buying.  Dude can play well, there's no doubt, but I'm less enthusiastic about buying the set now.  Will try some faves soon.  Maybe that will change my mind.

Right now, live, a gorgeous reading of Femenine (1974), the minimalist masterpiece by Julius Eastman, with 7 musicians from the Orchestra of St. Luke's.

It's funny how we get fixated on the 7th, 8th and 9th. The third is lovely!

+1 It's possibly the most criminally neglected work by a "big name" composer, in my view. Then again, many of Dvorak's works could quality for that position!

Klami: Suomenlinna - Overture, Op. 30

The main melody of the piece has a so cheerful and uplifting quality. Lovely! The love child between Prokofiev and Sibelius I'd say without diminishing the composer's voice, but rather the other way around. Memorable stuff.
