Orchestral Works,

Also Sprach Zarathustra.
Tod und Verklarung.
Der Rosenkavalier.
Staatskapelle Dresden, Rudolf Kempe.

Strauss and Kempe, an ideal partnership. For me some of the best Strauss performances I heard. Perfect EMI sound too.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I have this set in its original (?) format, namely the green EMI box, similarly styled to many EMI boxes of the period including the Muti Beethoven symphonies which was the first set I ever got.

I lost the original format when moving to another house, so I bought this present set. The booklet is nothing to write home about, but the recordings have been remastered, although its not stated on the box itself, it is a fact, and it was very successfully done. The sound has been improved quite a bit.

Gombert: Motets Vol. 3-Beauty Farm

That one its on its way to me, have been listening to Volume I & II already, and loved it, so I expect volume III as successful as the first two. What are your thoughts, if you want them to share obviously?

Wranitzky, Paul (1756-1808) - Symphonies & Violin/Cello Concertos w/ the performers on the cover art below - just arrived from JPC, all discs from their 'sale' selections.  From Wiki, Wranitzky wrote 56 symphonies: 29 published symphonies, 27 symphonies in manuscripts - I now have about 16 of these works w/ just two duplications - much more about this famous (back then) and now neglected Moravian-Viennese composer at the Wranitzky Project.  Dave :)

Ending my Mozart Sonata journey with the first sonata, K279. This is a substantial piece, particularly the vigorous first movement. Zacharias can't be faulted.

I'm delighted you enoyed Zacharias's set, which is currently my favorite, along with Fazil Say/Sony and Maria Joao Pires/Denon.

QuoteMaybe next should be Haydn's piano sonatas? There are a lot of then. I have the Buchbinder set.

And you can't go wrong with it. Just start and keep us informed about your findings. I greatly enjoyed your Mozart/Zacharias installments and look forward to your Haydn/Buchbinder ones.

Nice! Hope you are enjoying the work, Olivier.

I had the chance to see it live here in Madrid in 1992, conducted by the composer, and that is one of the highlights of my concert-going life. A mesmerising experience. Actually, it was a bit of a Boulez-a-thon, as the previous evening he had conducted Le Marteau sans maître (which was also extraordinary :) ).

Bonsoir, cher ami!
