Quote from: ritter on January 08, 2020, 07:35:19 AMPierre Boulez once said the Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex was like a Greek temple made of plastic.

Just another comment by Pierre Boulez which I find ridiculous.  But it is appropriate for Boulez commenting on Oedipus Rex to attack one of his his musical fathers.

Sonata No. 23. Impressive, especially in the third part.

I enjoyed these via Qobuz, so I decided to buy the discs. It was maddening to discover that most, if not all, were issued as SACDs individually, but the box set is RBCD. (Oehms did the same with Korstick's Beethoven Sonatas and Simone Young's Bruckner Symphonies,) Oh well, 5 CDs for $27 on Amazon is a great deal, and the sound is absolutely superb--hard to imagine that the SACDs are appreciably better. Minnaar plays a straight strung piano made by Chris Maene, which provides the clarity of older instruments with the power of a modern piano.

Ah, this is great!
"A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people ... then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbour — such is my idea of happiness"

Piano Sonata No. 23, Op. 57 "Appassionata". Brendel is definitely does not belong to those performers who lack the ability to distinguish between passion and hysteria, who comically exaggerate dynamic effects and pound the keys with all their might.

This is very well done, as for this kind of music, the performance is perfect. There is virtual no issue in the chain of production. Voices clear as a bell, instrumentalist that project an image that sounds authentic, and a very remarkable SOTA recording (Tacet Tube)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

"When Time hath gnawed our bones to dust, yet friendship's echo shall not rust"
