I still remember buying that recording from Tower Records. I played that CD to death! Both the 5th and CC #1 are spectacular.

Excellent music and nice performance. They sing in old Japanese (equivalent of Victorian English or older), and that makes the songs elegant and classy. Lovely recording.

This 'Live in Japan' performance has had many iterations over the years:

Der lächelnde Schatten

NP: Bartók Dance Suite, Sz. 77

This whole disc is outstanding. I haven't listened to it in ages. David Robertson is an underrated conductor in my view. Apparently, this was the first recording to use a new edition of The Miraculous Mandarin. Whether this is important or not, I'll leave that to someone else.

Spotted Horses

Weinberg Symphony No 4, Chmura, Polish National Orchestra

Outer movements are frenetic, the two inner movements slow and subtle. Then third was particularly attractive, beginning Adagio, followed by an Andante with witty chromatic melodies against a slowly shifting background.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.
