Bloch: Violin Concerto

This piece could perfectly work as the soundtrack for a biblical movie. It's so epic!

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

A greatly improved result this morning in my XR Dexa Bone Scan compels me to celebrate at length tonight with a batch of some of my favorite audio treats. If I can find 'em, that is (CDs are boxed-up - some are labeled! - in joyful anticipation of a move back to Eastman environs but not looking good for that just now. "Stuck in ol' Lodi," as Credence used to sing, being our current refrain...) Well, on the plus side, the situation is fluid, and I've got these to look forward to, well, maybe: ;D

Zemlinsky: Serenade for violin and piano in A major

Never knew till recently that Zemlinsky wrote a piece like this and it's superb, memorable, a delectable composition in five attractive movements.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Why not?

What's it like?

Maestro Gamzou's last name btw means "this too" in Hebrew, although it's usually transcribed as gam zu.

Stenhammar's early period is rather influenced by Wagner as these excerpts from an opera testify. However, this is glorious, epic stuff (lately I've been in the mood for music like that it seems). I'd love to hear the complete opera.

On the whole I'd say it's more in the spirit of Berg than Wagner and Bruckner.

At the start of the the fourth movement I nearly had a heart attack. Thoroughly enjoyed it -- astonishing in that movement.

The room with my big speakers is being decorated and it's out of action till the weekend -- can't wait to play it again then.
