Cherubini: String Quartet No. 6 in A minor

Along with the quartets by Kalliwoda and Kuhlau, the ones by Cherubini are the best examples from the classical era that are sort of contemporary of Beethoven. This specific quartet has a compelling development that doesn't sound hackneyed, on the contrary, quite fresh and inventive. His 6 quartets are not to be missed by anyone who are fond of the late classical/pre-romantic era.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

Nyman: MGV (Musique à Grande Vitesse)

Tons of endorphins here! Then again, a good deal of his music contains them. His style is so recognizable. I think I may prefer his way of minimalism over Glass for several reasons, including more complexity and constant rhythmic changes. The Piano Concerto on the same disc provides a similar cheering quality, which I happen to adore too.

Not expecting too much. How wrong was that! Superb recording and playing from the Italians.

I don't believe I've heard the full opera before, or certainly not while being able to read the libretto (which is why I picked this version).

Full of marvellous things. It's especially striking how many ensemble pieces there are in Act One. And then Act Two has a lot more solo arias, pretty well all of them gorgeous. And both Acts end with huge, multi-part pieces.

In some ways the story is just a trifle cruel, but it's done so well. Da Ponte really was excellent. Despina is a fabulous character.

A new composer for me, but a fascinating adventure, the music touches a snare and it resonates clear and loudly. Interesting info on the net about him, so if you want to know it tells you more as I ever can. A pity that he is entirely forgotten and I am afraid this new release will not change that, as so often happens..The performance by ARC ensemble is exemplary and it is a superb recording made at the Koerner Hall, Telus Centre for Performance and Learning, The Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A clear ambiance and it delivers pristine detailing.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

And then, bed. Rather than searching for something I've mislaid SOMEWHERE in this house. Sigh.

Always a pleasure to hear, Les Witches, and the choice of music which is so in their line of expertise and capabilities. Fine ensemble playing, synergy and balance. Brings a smile on your face, and makes the dreary day brighter. The sound is a bit direct, and frontal, but adjusting the volume will help, especially were the recorders are in full flight. It could potentially hurt your ears a little.

What a absolute joy to hear both works together. They are akin, more as you might think. A deep passion and emotions of all kinds permeate and drenches the expression with a deep longing for utterance of that which is nameless and defies explanation. Every note is an awareness of some kind, diffuse as it might seem, and yet it is supremely balanced, a book of notes and a history of human memory combined, leads to such a performance that opens the heart and mind simultaneously. A picture, painting, writing, feeling, all of that and more. A musical poem of elegance and supreme stature.
The cello floats on the magic of invention and creativity, and the Piano is a humble servant, Thus it is balanced. The sound is a honest see through spectrum, of what you want to see and hear, and for everyone that might be something else. Recommended.
