Pink Floydof course -

. longest  good lasting longevity, works that stand time, new work that does not sound asbeen (The rolling Stone) and not a pop-teen bop sensation band that experiment (The beattles).

Look Pink Floyd started grungy whit Syd Barret very cool  evolve each time which awesome material.Over a spen of time of 30 years, while beattles regardless of status made like 8 album, the first were teen pop, not psychedelic not interesting for my liking of musicologist, the stone weree good in the ending 60 the 70'' afterward they keep on pilling so-so album, not worth my time, but PINK FLOYD  kept on  in my interest as a darn good band perhaps best rock-roll band in U.K , in usa I have to mention CCR even if King Crimson awesome there album on even, some are very good some have weakness..this and I love K.C... so am I fair play ,do you agree whit me???

Maybe I'm getting the meaning of 'grungy' wrong, but having seen and heard PF in its first incarnation, with Barrett they were rather more pop oriented. Their songs generally fit the three minute span and they were rather trebly and upbeat. There were lots of peppy psychedelic pop bands in the UK at the time.

Thew dim-the-lights shoe-gazing, don't-talk-to-the-audience fifteen-minute song format (in which very little happens musically) is from after Barrett's departure. The bassist took over, the treble went out of the sound, and they could play a set consisting of just a few songs, spun out endlessly.

Needless to say I ws not a fan. But I wasn't a Stones fan either. British bands often had a most unpleasant vibe on stage, as if they were angry it took them so many years to get anywhere.

All my experiences with rock are pre 1975, after that I lost interest.

Of the three, Pink Floyd is my choice. That said, I wouldn't class them as a straight rock band like the Stones. Initially they were psychedelic pop and moved on to progressive rock.
