And I had forgotten that Steve McQueen was in that movie; however, it's been decades since I've watched it.  ;D

I was too young when I first saw that movie and had nightmares for a long while afterwards.

'whatever' (usually passive aggressive in intent)
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

I don't remember re nightmares...and trying to remember how old I was when I did see it?  :-[  I vaguely remember people running and screaming and sort of what the blob looked like (something along the lines of ectoplasm?).

Basically
I'm not gonna lie...
I wanted to reach out
'like' as a filler
No disrespect, but...
Going forward
What it is, is
What's it was, was
What it was, is
"A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people ... then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbour — such is my idea of happiness"

Crisis

Everything is a 'crisis' apparently nowadays.

They will have to come up with a dictionary word to replace 'crisis' as it has lost its meaning.

"chacun à son goût" >:(

It's "à chacun son/ses goût(s)"

Merci.  :P

Fantastic Voyage did that to me. I've somehow never seen The Blob, but I might could now, out of curiosity.

unpack

early adopter (or worse, early adapter)

The latter is a marketing strategy to encourage people to buy their products when they first come out so the customers can earn this title and proudly tell everybody they're an 'early adopter' instead of waiting and see how well something works and sells. They really sold a phrase, or rather an idea, into the public consciousness.

Agreed. However, my niece, a trainee vet, is currently in charge of the midwifery of a group of pregnant alpacas and has enriched my vocabulary with the fact that the birth process of said beast is known as an 'unpacking,' a usage of which I thoroughly approve!

"Thank you so much".

Mostly used by younger people, whose evident politeness I wouldn't want to discourage, but I don't need thanking that much just for holding open a door.
"All the world is birthday cake" - George Harrison

"From the get go" makes my skin crawl. Not keen on "In the end of the day" either.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Roasted Swan

In the light of the Season - someone mentioned "gifting" as of particular annoyance.  The usage apparently was; "can I have your address as I will be gifting you something".

People shouldn't fuss about overused phrases or words. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

Thank you so much!  There was a lot to unpack here.  From the get go you really gifted us with your words of wisdom.  But at the end of the day, going forward, it is what it is.

My problem is that if you are "gifting" someone it should like you are going to give them away. :)

"Long story short..." is one that has been annoying me in recent times. I keep hearing it on podcasts where the point of the show, the very format, is to make long stories short.

But its redundant also because any story could be made longer, and concision is one of the natural goals of any communication.

And it sounds like a preemptive apology for lazily misrepresenting a subject.
