Hello, I would like to ask how long I should be away from any instrument before it counts as the reference note. What I mean is that sometimes I hear the reference note and sing it, and then I am able to press the note on the piano. But if I want to do a video of perfect pitch or reference note gained later on in life, how long should the video be ? I mean, if I watch TV for 20 minutes and go sing the note and press the tone, is it enough of a demonstration? To keep for myself only

I tried to google it and found out some people also gained this later in life. For me, it happens sometimes, and if I practice it on those days, I am also able to get other notes than the reference of the chamber recognized.

Sometimes I wake up and it works in the mornings. Sometimes it is gone for days and sometimes it is back for days. It is a bit weird. I know it may be an odd question.

If you truly possess " perfect " or " absolute " pitch, it shouldn't matter if the delay you're talking about is twenty minutes or twenty hours, you'll be able to identify or reproduce whatever pitch at will.

If the ability is coming and going, it may be related to your physical status, i.e. fatigue, illness etc.

I was told l have it when l was in high school,  and I've learned a couple of things during the intervening decades as a performer.

1) The ability can be a convenience and can be entertaining, but it will almost never be essential. In over fifty years of performing, I've only needed perfect pitch on a very few occasions. Having rock-solid relative pitch is infinitely more important.

2) As alluded to above, one's physical state can affect the internal tuning fork. When I'm fatigued, for instance, my pitch-sense changes and l tend towards flatness.

So don't worry too much about it. If it's available, great... if not, no biggie.  8)
