The version of The Nutcracker on RCA is dirt-cheap on Amazon - it's several years old, of course. But I have two other sets of this already.  How superlative is this one?

Please carry on everyone, the disruptions are over.

Based on the one concert I attended, he had a theatrical flair.

I recall that at one climactic moment in the music, which he conducted with a swooping movement, he ended up facing the audience and gave us a bit of a wink before continuing. I don't remember what the piece was. :)

I don't know any of his recordings (late to the topic)...will have to look into them and read re best recordings.

Listened to his Shostakovich 6 in the RCA Shostakovich box and the Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances, also with St. Petersburg but on Warner coupled with Horostovsky in the Songs and Dances of Death.

There's also a Symphonic Dances recording on RCA, right? I think I listened to it last month.

Affirmative.

Apart from the (excellent) Prokofiev 'Alexander Nevsky' (film score not oratorio) CD I've had this inexpensive set for over ten years:

I'm sorry that we lost Hvorostovsky and at only 55.

Quote from: AnotherSpin on November 04, 2023, 06:24:27 AMAt this very minute, an alarm is sounding in my city informing that Russian cruise missiles have been launched in my direction. Are you trying to tell that while I'm reading the GMG forum, I should ignore this fact?

I hope you're save. Good luck. I'm following the news and reflect on the war.
