I was expecting better performance from England team in this match. Nigeria looked better and had more moments. I hope England will be more collected in a next game.

Totally agree - England were very lucky to win and Nigeria were the better team. Lauren James went 'from hero to zero' and was quite rightly sent off. All credit, however, to Chloe Kelly for scoring that crucial last penalty.
I like her dramatic run-up!
Sweet that she went over to console the Nigerian goalkeeper afterwards.

Yes, I liked that run-up too. The way she took a leap before commencing the run. Never seen that in the men's game.

A lot goes on during a game which can only explain the despicable behaviour of Lauren James. Her World Cup should be and I think will be over.

Yes, I like that characteristic leap before commencing her run. I must try it out in the garden  :o

PS Agree with you about James. What was she thinking?

 ;D

The only thing I can think of is the Nigerian girl maybe goading James either or both verbally and physically during the game. If that the plan then it worked.

Is she suspended for one game or two games?

It's in the adjudication process of FIFA now.

Possibly up to three games, which would mean missing the rest of the competition if England advance. I was wondering if England gets knocked out is James still prohibited from playing for any two more international matches if the ban is extended beyond one game. I see that she has now apologised to the Nigerian player who, all credit to her, has forgiven her.

I suspect so too (from a mostly non-follower of football).

So, if England survives and gets into the final (from what I understand), she will be able then to play.  When are they playing next?

Edit:  It looks like Saturday--early for me my time me thinks.

Article about the "unexpected" top scorer Miyazawa, Japan. Miyazawa is a good college student, and her brother has been an inspiration to her and he continues to be her mentor. Her lack of ego/aggressiveness is her strength.

Nice article!  Impressive that she hung in there and got a degree whilst still playing football!

I see that Japan will be playing Sweden on Friday; would like to watch that match, but boy is it early for me!  :(

Tight first half between the Matildas and Les Bleues. France had a good control of the game but had to weather an Aussie storm for the last 10 minutes of the half  ???

I caught the very last bit of it (towards the end of the penalty kicks).  Sorry Papy!  I am rather happy for Australia though since they are hosting it.

Currently watching England vs. Columbia (Columbia scored a few minutes ago).  Seems like some rather rough playing/blocking going on.

Edit:  Tied now--one all at the break!

On another note, the USWNT were seen as rather arrogant even before the football began. A number of players from other countries made comments about this after they were eliminated saying how glad they were to see them go.
Cheers
