This live performance features Martha Argerich (piano) and Tedi Papavrami (violin) in a complete recital at Tannay, Switzerland on August 28 of this year. I had planned to simply bookmark it for a later viewing and prospective posting but became riveted once the accomplished musicians began to play. The music of J.S. Bach had a lot to do with it, too.  :D The full program:

J.S. Bach Sonata BWV 1017
Sergei Prokofiev Sonata Op. 94a in D Major
Ludwig van Beethoven "Kreutzer" Sonata op.47
Fritz Kreisler "Liebesleid"

Enjoy.

So, what did you think of it?
I was not too impressed, alas.

What didn't you like about the performances?

I thought they were all beautifully rendered, especially the Bach and Beethoven, though I had reservations about the Prokofiev and Kreisler; particularly the Prokofiev, where I found Papavrami's approach too emotionally removed for my tatse. Prokofiev can be sardonic, as he certainly is in the second movement of the D Major Sonata, but never without passion. When you get a minute listen this performance, for example, of the Prokofiev sonata by Augustin Hadelich (violin) and Charles Owen (piano).

It feels like a completely different work - and I'm convinced its due to a completely different approach. Hadelich is committed. I didn't feel that with Papavrami, but I have to say that I only had one listen. And it's true that the work, overall should have a light, almost bouyant feel but it's Prokofiev-light, not Mozart.  :P
