I have a phone which still has a slot for a MicroSD card, so's I can have something of a music library on my phone. So, I wanted to tweak the content, and in mine innocence I thought this might be as simple as connecting my phone to the laptop via a USB cable. Oh, but no. There's no way to get my laptop to recognize the phone. My desired adjustments involve folders and too many files to make bluetooth transfer practical. I have another  MicroSD card, so I'll load the modified library onto that card, and swap them. I suspect all this nuisance is downstream effects of the phone companies wanting to push us all into paying monthly cloud subscriptions. I don't really hope that the  MicroSD card slot will be brought back into phone design.

If your phone is android, once the cable is plugged between the phone and computer, you need to drop down from the phone home screen and tap usb connection and allow file transfer. Then you can do the transfers or changes you need to directly on the micro SD.

I tend to keep that for small changes as larger copy/paste often crash.

For larger changes or copy, I take the card out and do the changes on the laptop and re-insert in the phone when done.

It is an android phone, but there is no USB connection option when I drop down from the home screen. I just have to fiddle with the card. Fort apprécié, tout de même!

That is what I always did when I had an HTC One M9.

With the phone plugged into the laptop, and being logged on on the phone, when you swipe down from the top of the phone screen, you have the usual settings bits but also a line shows up that says "charging with Usb". Tap the arrow down and tap again. it gives you various options. if you select file transfer, the phone will then appear in your laptop's Windows explorer as an available drive.

No, my phone doesn't give me a file transfer option. Thanks for checking, mon ami!

If you are using a Mac, you should know that modern Android phones use MTP protocol and require a third-party app! It is automatic in Windows 11.

That should do the trick, @Karl Henning . Have you tried it? (Of course, requires a card reader which you might not have, but you could buy one, they should be a dime a dozen these days).
