Self-explanatory.

My list:

Dittersdorf - Autobiography

If life gives you a lemon, make a juice out of it. Haydn is THE paradigm in this respect (he was given several lemons, actually) yet it's Dittersdorf who recorded, wittily and honestly, his own such experiences.

Henri Herz - Mes voyages en Amerique (My voyage to America)

A witty, cultured and inquisitive bloke records his experiences in North America. Keen sense of humor and liberal mindset.

Berlioz - Memoirs

Pose and histrionics aplenty, made palatable, even sympathetic, by typically Gallic wit and panache.

Stravinsky - Musical Poetics

A typically Stravinskian mix of nonsense and common sense.

Your turn.
"Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty. Magical music never leaves the memory." — Thomas Beecham

San Antone

Cage - Silence
Feldman - Give My Regards to Eighth Street

There are others but I'd have to go down to my basement and scan my shelves.

What to Listen for in Music-- Copland

The book simply lays out the entire foundation for how to listen to music written by a famous composer instead of some random hack.

When I first opened this book, I honestly expected it to have blank pages without any text ;)
