This is an excellent idea for a blog! Reminds me of a friend of mine's jazz blog, The 1959 Project.

Neat!  I'll have to work my way through them.  Who writes the articles by the way.  Is he/she "just" a music collector or do they have any musical education, etc.?  Just curious.

Thank you. The Music Aficionado blog is written by mmm... a music aficionado. Me. He. Limited music education but endless passion for music.

Yes, it's a fascinating idea, putting often very different works in their historical context, and I for one will be following along.  Looking forward to 1955, which includes Le marteau sans maĆ®tre, the Canticum sacrum, Oiseaux exotiques, Shostakovich 1st violin concerto, Arnold's Tam O'Shanter and many more.

I enjoyed this one and am pleased to see the blog covers a range of genres 8) . I first got into modern classical having explored various rock genres (Krautrock is a favourite) and finding little to interest me before the mid 1960s.

W.A. Mozart

I suggest to also cover Joly Braga Santos. His fourth symphony was written in 1950.
