A student of Respighi for Composition and of B. Molinari for Orchestra Conducting, he graduated from the Conservatory of Music in Rome.
He began an intense concert activity in the 1930s as an accompanist for singers with his own music and from 1935 he devoted himself to conducting, which saw him at the head of the major Italian and foreign orchestras. In 1952 he began to devote himself particularly to radio music production.
He taught Composition at the Conservatory of Music in Rome from 1959 to 1971.
