After having listened to Carlo Maria Giulini's recordings of Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni and absolutely falling in love with them (Figaro is now probably my favourite work of classical music ever), I'm now looking for a recording of Così fan tutte to listen to. Alas, Giulini doesn't seem to have ever made a recording of the opera, so I'm wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a Così recording that might be enjoyed by someone who loves the Giulini recordings of the other two Da Ponte operas. In case it helps, my favourite Mozart recordings are those that bring out the sensuality, energy and laughter implicit in his music (for example, I much prefer Bruno Walter's recordings of Mozart's last 6 symphonies to Karl Böhm's more "elegant, objective" takes).

Any help would be much appreciated.

My usual suggestions for Cosi are the ones conducted by Rene Jacobs and Erich Leinsdorf.
But I should add that it's not one of my favorite Mozart operas, and what I look for in his music may not be what you are looking for.

My favourite recordings of Così are Karajan 1954, Böhm 1962, Alain Lombard 1977, Davis 1981 and
Levine 1988

Alain Lombard's languorous 1977
recording remains an eccentric and controversial preference; if I were constrained to pick only one, it
would have to be Karajan, cut and antiquated as it is [...]

If your tastes lean towards laughter, sensuality and energy, then without a doubt, this is for you

If you like the Giulini Don Giovanni and Figaro, then the Böhm/Warner-EMI is definitely the one to go for. It has Schwarzkopf and Taddei in the cast, as well as Ludwig as Dorabella, Kraus as Fernando, Hanny Steffek as Despina and Walter Berry as Don Alfonso and the Philharmonia on top form, just like the Giulini Don and Figaro.

If you want a Cosi close to Giulini, the best is probably the EMI Karajan. Schwarzkopf is better here than on the later EMI Böhm and the rest of the cast is on the level of Giulini's Mozart recordings.
The Decca Böhm is often overshadowed by his later recording but I like Della Casa/Dermota much more than Schwarzkopf/Kraus on the later EMI remake. I think Schwarzkopf was mannered by that time and Kraus has a bit a nasal tone, so I am not a fan of the Böhm EMI (which is a first choice for many). If it wasn't for the cuts, the Decca/Böhm would be my first choice.
