Well to my big surprise with the post came this complete box a few minutes ago, from a woman friend from Germany. She send me all minus the operas, so all instrumental works, 12 boxes in toto.
Isn't that grand, a belated birthday present.  :)

Piano sonatas.
Serenades and divertimenti for Winds.
Complete symphonies.
Complete SQ.
Wind Concertos.
Serenades for Orchestra.
Piano concertos.
Solo Piano works.
Violin sonates.
Chambermusic complete.

Ach, too bad, Harry...without the operas you're missing the best!  The Philips with Colin Davis are some of his best CDs.

Well yes that's true, but at least I have all the Brilliant releases.
And she has said if I really like the Mozart operas, she might send me these also.
But she is still under the impression that I dislike operas.
Have to correct that huh?

Today I ordered this complete box from Mozart, with contains also the operas.
170 cd's for 60 euro's.

That's a real bargain isn't it? If I recall right, It took 47 days for me to listen to the whole box. ;D
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Sure, 60 euro's for 170 cd's is peanuts. :)

Iago

Harry,

   Do you have a "life"?

Or is all you do dedicated to listening to cds?

Especially those containing the music of Wimpish Wolfie.
"Good", is NOT good enough, when "better" is expected

I run my own company, care for my sick wife, doing the household, go to church, and visit friends. Inbetween I listen to music. I try to put as much time in listening as I possible can Iago.
So yes I have a life.

O, yes and I nearly forgot, I have my own choir for which I prepare all the material to sing, and try to make them sing perfectly. Takes up a lot of time too.

This is a great collection of Mozart's works. We've had it for a little over a year and still haven't heard every CD (we tend to listen to one CD for several days or sometimes weeks at a time), but are very happy with the set. Some reviewers on Amazon complain of poor quality recordings, but those I've heard so far seem just fine to me, and even if it may not be the highest caliber recordings, this is a good way to have the complete works of Mozart in a concise package and for a very good price ($115-120 at Amazon). This type of complete sets are a very useful resource for the scholar of music history or musicology with an interest in a specific composer (similar sets for other composers such as Bach and Beethoven are also available).

Harry

There is nothing wrong with this box, but after some years of collecting to tend to throw a certain percentage in the refusal bin, believe me......... ;)
And welcome by the way.
Maybe you want to introduce yourself on the New members thread?

The price of that set along with the overall good reviews it gets make it very attractive indeed.  There was one deal breaker though when I was considering buying it- the operas do not come with libretti  :-\

Comes with a cd with libretti and text to all the works. But the libretto are only in the sung language so if you can't read Italian or some cases German you are SOL.

But then anybody who is seriously interested in "classical" music should be able to read German, Italian and French anyway.

Well, maybe there is an Italian or 2, but no, no French... :D

I can't read any of those languages, but I have troubled to learn the important words anyway. It's a start. There is already so much to learn... :-\

Just picked up this version of the set yesterday for about $40 from my local shop. Looks like there are two or three editions. Discogs has all three listings, some in mint condition starting as little as 20 Euros but, of course, it's the shipping that will cost you (Amazon's prices are notably inflated). But it's a great third alternative to the Philips box and Mozart 225. The quality of the discs so far have been sterling and I'm so glad I didn't let this one get away. To my mind it's a must have for fans who love the composer's work but don't already have a plethora of Mozart recordings.
