You can tell who has a family just by looking at the pictures on the thread. ;D

Here's our family car and it does have an auto.  :D

And If I had to commute in stop and go freeway traffic, I'd want an auto, too.  I've made life choices precisely to avoid that necessity.

No, it looks more like a getaway car.  ;D

I was slightly disingenuous in my OP, actually. Our Fiesta is semi-auto, which means it handles like an auto when we want it to, but it can be made to drive like a manual at a knock of the stick. Never driven it this way, but imagine that without a clutch, one simply throttles back before changing up or down. ??? Annoying thing is, it can seem like a manual even in auto, as you can very much feel the gears changing and the power dipping as they do. Never had that with our last fully auto. :(

Yeah my brother-in-law drives stick on Rhode Island, hahaha, he's always fussing with it because of the traffic.  He's really good at it, but I would be really annoyed if I had to do that.

With tvs/dvds in the back for the kids? ;D  I bet so, those lucky kids.  When I was a kid it was play with one of those lcd handheld games (baseball to be exact) and listen to music on my walkman. ;D

And when we were kids it was playing word games with roadside signs and singing songs together.

Nope....no fun extras of the sort.  Only when we do a 8-12 hour trip do we let them break out the portable dvd players and or hand held game.  Usually they are relegated to Mozart, Beethoven, or the Beatles....or just good old conversation.  This way when they do have those fun devices they are still a special treat and not old hat.  ;D

My sister was the one with the etch-a-sketch, and we would trade off when we got bored with what we were doing. :)  I can't read in the car because of motion sickness.
